Alternative
Spring Break
Each spring, VOICES offers students a Spring Break program as an alternative
to the traditional week of partying. We give students a chance to take
the week and improve the lives of others through service.
The week-long
program gives students an opportunity to see and fix some of the problems
faced by society today. Although service is our main objective, we do
take time to have fun, see the sites, and have a great bonding experience.
In previous years we have gone to:
- Mo Ranch for landscaping, cleaning and making crafts.
- Houston, Texas for volunteering at the Houston Zoo
and at the Children's Museum
- Austin for the Urban Plunge, an experience of homeless
living
This year, VOICES will provide members with the
opportunity to attend one of three Alternative Spring Breaks from
March 11 to 17 See www.utsa.edu/sa/vs

[ ASB in 2006 ]
In 2006, VOICES sponsored a trip to New Orleans where volunteers
had a chance to help residents of the St. Bernard Parish with Emergency
Communities. Some of the students received a scholarship from SBC
Foundation, selected students participated in assisting living conditions
through Habitat for Humanity (building houses) and distributing
resources to the many who have lost their houses and have, frankly,
nothing left.
